However, his name will not be remembered in the annals of orchestration as his young rival Mozart. Surely this man named Salieri was also a great composer of the time. The Last Emperor is based on the life of Puyi, who acted as the final emperor of China. Indeed, the movie's structure balances a packed timeline and is ultimately executed with extreme precision, jumping from era to era when needed. The Last Emperor does just that, with its breathtaking visuals and tense, dramatic sequences never taking away from the personal arc at the film's core.
